Reclaim Your Power
Let’s roll up our Renovator sleeves, together
It’s easy to feel disempowered these days, but we do have agency.
Just think of our recent piece by Sam Daley-Harris on how Ordinary People Just Helped Save Millions of Lives. Citizens took action, and Congress showed some spine to save global health programs.
There are more than enough— probably too many— publications dedicated to bemoaning our democracy’s difficulties. But hand-wringing won’t solve our problems, because democracy is not a spectator sport. If the house is falling apart, the options are complaining or renovating— and only one of those will actually fix the house. Only one of those empowers us.
Action is the antidote to anxiety. The Renovator is a place to celebrate these wins for democratic agency— and to work to achieve more of them.
So join us tomorrow, Thursday, March 5 from 7:00-8:30 EST, for the first-ever Renovator Assembly. There you’ll meet other Renovators from all across America— people willing to roll up their sleeves and work to solve the problems that face us, no matter how big or small. Learn from their stories, and share your own.
We are lucky to sit at a cross-section of Democracy Renovators doing good work all over this country; there’s no telling what we could accomplish if we all come together.
Democratic agency isn’t just about large-scale wins. It’s about concrete renovation efforts on the local level, the county level, the state level— places where our share of agency is largest, where we can make the most difference in the right direction, and where our small wins can build real momentum toward bigger ones.
When we reclaim our power in our communities, empowerment becomes contagious.
Come to the Renovator Assembly to inspire and be inspired. Come to meet collaborators in your community, and collaborators fighting similar fights on the other side of the country. Come to remember how powerful you are, how big of a difference one person can make. Come to discover how powerful we can be when we work together— and how much fun it can be to share this work with others.
If you’ve been reading The Renovator for a while, this is a chance call to make the leap into greater action. The link to join will go out tomorrow in an email to all paid subscribers. Join us to activate this community of practice.
Let’s transform resistance into renovation. Let’s build a democracy worth defending.
Don’t stay a spectator. It’s time to renovate democracy, together.
Yours,
The Renovator Editorial Board
