I hope you saw my column a few weeks ago about Lisa Rice, who is responsible for winning Ranked Choice Voting and Semi-open primaries in Washington D.C. Lisa changed her registration from Democrat to Independent after the 2016 election, and soon discovered that her rejection of parties also meant she had lost her right to vote in the only consequential elections in D.C.—the party primaries. Her exclusion fueled a reform vision, and her creativity and dedication yielded victory. Lisa is one of my personal democracy renovation heroes, and I’m thrilled that she will join us for our next Renovator Assembly, this Thursday, August 6th, at 7pm ET. Our Assemblies are a lot of fun. We start with get-to-know you break-out groups so that members can meet some new folks with shared interests; then we hear from our guest for about ten minutes; then we go back into break-out groups to discuss a prompt or two provided by our guest. The goal of the prompts is to help us all learn more about what it takes to build resilience for democracy renovation and to help us bring the path to victory into sharper focus. Our future, healthy country is already visible in Lisa’s story. All we have to do is listen, learn, and join in.
