Closed party primaries would strip every independent and decline-to-state voter of a meaningful say in who advances. That is a worse democracy, not a better one.
RCV in the primary, or top-four/five with RCV in November, gives Californians the inclusive primary they fought for plus a fix for vote-splitting. It's a build, not a retreat. We're working on this at the state and local level and would welcome anyone reading this who wants to get involved.
